I have not read The Art of Racing in the rain, but I have read and liked Marley & Me You can enjoy "Rescuing Sprite: a history of dog lovers in the joy and anguish by Mark R. Levin (nonfiction, Tearjerker)" Bob, Son of Battle by Alfred Olliver (fictional dog), Big Red by Jim Kjelgaard (fiction, dog - who has written a series of these)-The Incredible Journey by Sheila Burnford (2 dogs and 1 cat - great story devotion, friendship, survival), My Dog Skip by Willie Morris (true, Tearjerker)-Chips: A Hometown Hero Nancy M. West (indeed, incredible history, more than a few tears)-Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo (drama, poignant), Old Yeller by Fred Gipson (dog Tearjerker)-James Herriot books describing his experiences as a veterinarian in Yorkshire: All creatures great and small, all things bright and beautiful, all things smart and wonderful, the Lord God made them all - and other books, he writes stories of dogs.
